I am a Friend of God!

my friends are on their way to Haiti!
Tony and Jan Iannetta, close friends of ours, are on their way to Haiti today with this year's mission team from our church, The Hudson Community Chapel . Our local newspaper, The Akron Beacon Journal, has published a front page story about it. I hope you have a minute to read the article and see the photos. The story also highlights Ezekiel Isaac, a 19 year old Haitian who is living with Tony and Jan while he goes to college at the University of Akron. They are paying all of his expenses. He is a wonderful young man who wants to go back to Haiti after he gets his education to serve his people in his country.

read about random acts of kindness!

I previously wrote about our church's goal of "gifting" 5000 people in our area through random acts of kindness of our members this Christmas season. (Previous post.)

A random act of kindness...

Our church has started a tradition at Christmas time called, "You've Been Gifted". We have "business" cards available to pass out to folks we want to gift in restaurants or coffee shops. On one side, the cards say:

Please meet my friend, Amy
Hi, my name is Amy Price.
I’m a 24 year old Master’s student at Kent State. I come from one of THE MOST loving families in the world. I haven’t seen the whole world, but anyone who knows us observes the same. My parents were raised in households which practiced opposite faiths. Before having children, they agreed practicing religion would be the choice of the child. Our motto, “Treat others the way I want to be treated!”
I grew up knowing the unconditional love of my family and friends, but still imposing a standard of perfectionism upon myself, I’d think, I know my family loves me, but I don’t know why!
In 2007, I was invited to HCC. I did not know what to expect, but was encouraged remembering a conversation my mom had with me years ago. She told me that as a teacher she sees God in the face of her Special Education students daily. The words of Singer Johnny Diaz became more clear with each visit here to HCC. Johnny reminds us all: “You were made to fill a purpose only you can do! There can never be a more beautiful you!!
After 4 months of attending regularly, I asked to be involved in the Children’s Ministry. One can learn so much through the eyes of a child! Before I started helping, I asked Jesus into my heart; if I tell kids, “Trust GOD NO MATTER WHAT!” I SHOULD KNOW THE SAME JOY!
Since I’ve known Christ, I realize faith is trust and relationship with him, not worry and ritual. I choose to be baptized today to declare publicly, Jesus is my Savior!

My "grand" Mother's Day Week - Day Four
It was one of those glorious sunny and mildly warm days that you wish could last all year long. After church, the guys got busy fixing our lunch.

and minding the kids...

while more family and our friends, the Meybaums, arrived...

Everyone is still laughing about my comment when I sat down to eat the yummy grilled burger & corn on the cob: "so this is what it's like to be a man...you sit down to eat, and food suddenly appears!"
I can't believe I've been a mother for going on 30 years! Seated is Great-Grandma Stager, who has been a mother for 61 years, Ellie & Joanna each for over 3 years, and standing in front of the bookcase is our dear friend, Jennifer, who has been a mother for 5 years now!
In addition to a wonderful "day off" and a fabulous cookout, I received these gifts: A book from Andy, handprints of two of the kids embroidered by Ellie, fruit of the vine from a local winery, as well as the hand made necklace & earrings (by my niece, Sarah), compliments of Sam & Joanna.
This very special dandelion bouquet came from Elylah!

Happy Mother's Day, Mom!Tomorrow: a fun day at the zoo!
