a (no) snow day...

I'm counting life's little blessings as I wind down for the evening. Three years of babysitting for my granddaughter was pretty much a no-brainer for the most part. But when #2 baby came along and I started watching them both, for some reason I've been a bit intimidated. Not a problem when we are just staying put, mind you. Just when I want to venture out. Like to Thursday morning ladies bible study. That blasted baby carrier is way to heavy for me to lug in one hand. We're talking about a baby that was over 10# at birth! Then there's the challenge of carrying him plus holding the 3 year old's hand, not to mention my purse, the diaper bag, and my bible study materials. Visualize this AND single digit temperatures with wind and snow, as we trudge through the parking lot. How do the young moms do it week after week and still wear smiles on their faces? Oh blessed day, today! No snow! No wind! Temps in the low 50's. I could push the baby seat in the stroller with all the paraphernalia tucked underneath, and the 3 yr. old happy to walk between my arms, "helping " me push. Today was really sweet! It was so easy. After bible study the three of us picked up my mom and we all went out to lunch. I shall lay my head down on my pillow tonight feeling thankful and blessed. Even while I hear the new rain beginning, and the temperatures are again falling. I will take every "no" snow day I can get!

I enjoyed your post on the respect Mothers deserve...mine was 82 when she passed...I spent years babysitting my grandchildren...I was hesitant at first, but it proved to be so rewarding...some are teens and young adults now...there is just an extra special bond that developes. I feel blessed to have done it for 5 of them, 2 and 3 at a time.

Thanks for commenting! I'm also interested in discussing the special challenges we face as our parents age, how they change, what to expect, etc. I'm conflicted as to how to do that and still maintain the respect and honor. If you have any comments or suggestions on that and don't feel comfortable posting it here, you are free to email me @ Jacque481@aol.com. THANKS!

Thanks for your following Jacquelyn...it helps to know some changes are gradual and others are so abrupt...with that in mind, just purposely make memories with them while you can, for your own peace of mind later. We only had "my" mother's aging and failing health to deal with. She resided with my sister mainly, but with me on weekends and holidays. Her safety was our main concern. Mother posessed a strong independent personality, but there was a quiet gradual withdrawal her last months with us, it was as if she knew and was preparing. I thought I was prepared for her passing, little did I know how painful it would be. Memories that I purposely made that last year of her life help.

Thanks Wanda for this. Both our moms are widows and living in the same sr. condo. My hunband is an "only" and I'm oldest of 6, so very different circumstances. So far they are in good health for being in their 80's, but the other signs of aging are there, and takes me aback sometimes when unexpected and unfamiliar behaviors occur. I'm so looking forward to connecting with you through your blog and some others as well. THANKS!
