October's Bright Blue WeatherO suns and skies and clouds of June, And flowers of June together, Ye cannot rival for one hour October's bright blue weather; When loud the bumblebee makes haste, Belated, thriftless vagrant, And goldenrod is dying fast, And lanes with grapes are fragrant; When gentians roll their fingers tight To save them for the morning, And chestnuts fall from satin burrs Without a sound of warning; When on the ground red apples lie In piles like jewels shining, And redder still on old stone walls Are leaves of woodbine twining; When all the lovely wayside things Their white-winged seeds are sowing, And in the fields still green and fair, Late aftermaths are growing; When springs run low, and on the brooks, In idle golden freighting, Bright leaves sink noiseless in the hush Of woods, for winter waiting; When comrades seek sweet country haunts, By twos and twos together, And count like misers, hour by hour, October's bright blue weather. O sun and skies and flowers of June, Count all your boasts together, Love loveth best of all the year October's bright blue weather. Helen Hunt Jackson (1830-1885) "For since the creation of the world, God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse." Yes...God's invisible qualities, His eternal power and divine nature, reflected in the majesty of the physical world...what Glory!
Today I say rays of sunlight filter through low afternoon clouds and I praised our Kind and Faithful Heavenly Father. HE indeed is masterful and worthy of our adoration.
Blessed Autumn days to you!
Thanks Jess, and same to you! I've been dying to go down to the gorge near us, but of course can't take the two grands I watch, and I sure won't go by myself...hubby wants to take me this weekend if it's not raining. I just know it will be beautiful as our leaves are about at their best...I've just been "extra aware" of the beauty around me in nature and like you, think of how masterful our Creator is. Do you also like looking up into the sky as much as I do? "The heavens declare the glory of God..." Thanks for stopping by...how was the fundraiser for the pregnancy center?
Lovely autumn poetry!
WOW...I LOVE looking up into the sky! Was just doing it on the way home from the movies a few minutes ago. Thankfully Hubby was driving, (LOL), but that doesn't usually stop me.
The glorious, dramatic cloud formations that dominate our blue Florida skies always have me meditating on God's Wonders.
Please keep praying for the Banquet, it is November 5th so we are in the final "countdown" and the details I need to address are incredible. May God be Glorified and much needed funds raised for the Center.
I hope you get to the gorge and can take some awesome photos to share!
Talk soon Sweet Friend ~
Thank you Shirley for stopping by...I know how busy you are right now...This is sure an old-fashioned poem and some words have old-fashioned meanings that I had to actually "look up" to understand. Its one my m-i-l had to memorize as a child and can still say it! She's 83!
Jess when I read that last remark of yours and remembered you are in Florida, my heart did a little skip. We have NOT had bright blue weather today by a long shot here in Ohio. It has rained constantly and is very dreary today...quite a contrast from a gorgeous fall day yesterday. I will pray for your banquet...I will remember the 5th date because on the 6th we are going to a fundraiser banquet here (Have you heard of Emerge Ministries here in Akron?)...The Christian ministries sure need our prayers and support more than ever in this economy don't they? I can only imagine all the details you need to work out...May God give you wisdom and strength for the task, my friend!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
We need to be of good cheer and totally dependent on our Wonderful LORD!
Have a nice weekend and talk soon. =)
